JPEGs are designed to efficiently compress continuous colour or grayscale images, such as photographs or fine artwork. JPEGs do not work well on hard-edged images with areas of flat colour, these are better suited to GIFs or PNGs.

1. Blogs: For usability and clarity we have repositioned Blogs as "Channels". This change in terminology will affect related actions, including the following:

  • Starting a blog is now "Add Channel"

Imagery Part 1: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Ever wondered why an image you've uploaded to your site looks out of focus or slightly fuzzy like this...


...rather than like this image?

On the web images should be uploaded at their actual size (100%) in RGB colour mode, not sized-down or sized-up, this is the best practice for maximum quality imagery.

If you have to re-size an image and you don't have photo editing software it's always best to size-down an image rather than size-up (you can do this in the IGLOO editor).

Just like any trade, a developer needs the right tools for the job. Some may argue what those tools are but here is a short list of my preferred tools when working on any web site or web based application.

Multiple Browser Installs:

A pre made install package makes installing multiple versions (IE v3.0 - v6.0) of IE less of a manual process than multiple versions of Firefox.

Did you know that you can align, add padding and size up or size down your images using the IGLOO editor? Here’s how…

In the editor menu bar there is an “insert image” function (looks like a tree).

When you click on this button a pop-up menu will appear allowing you to choose from an array of open galleries IGLOO has set up for you (these images are free). If you have already created a photo gallery using your community’s own gallery then that will show here as well.

Have you ever used the editor to type in a couple of lines and pressed enter, just to notice that it jumped a whole line. What if you want a start a new line right beneath the previous paragraph.

Well, it's working the way it should. But there's a little neat trick to overcome that.
